Cisco Meraki

There are two main components of the Meraki integration:

1.  For assets that already exist in LCI from your PSA/IT Glue Integration, we will updated the following fields

  • Warranty Expiration Date.  This will be updated with the subscription end date for the Meraki device
  • Make/Vendor.  This will be set to Cisco Meraki

2.  Optionally, you may choose options to Import assets from Cisco Meraki. If selected, we will import any assets that are NOT already coming over from your PSA/IT Glue.  The fields we will import/load for the net new Meraki devices are:

  • Make/Vendor.  This will be set to Cisco Meraki
  • Asset Type.  This will be set to the default Asset Type as specified in your Meraki Configuration in LCI
  • Asset Name
  • Serial Number
  • Model Number
  • Warranty Expiration Date.  This will be set with the subscription end date for the Meraki device.

We use organization and serial number to determine if the asset already exists in LCI.

Setup - Estimated time 10-15 minutes

Cisco Meraki Dashboard Configuration

In your Meraki dashboard, you will need to enable the API for each organization you want to perform lookups for.  To do this, select the first organization... then enable it by going to Organizations Settings Dashboard API access.  Once there make sure Enable access to the Cisco Meraki Dashboard API is checked.

Important: Repeat the above step for each organization you want to perform lookups for.

After enabling the API for your organization/s.  Go to the my profile page to generate an API key.  The API key will be associated with the Dashboard Administrator account which generates it, and will inherit the same permissions as the account.

Generate your API Key and copy it as you will need to store in Lifecycle Insights in subsequent step.

Lifecycle Insights Configuration

In the left navigation pane, click on Integrations under Administration.   Next, scroll down at the bottom of the main content page and you will see a tile for Cisco Meraki - click on that tile.

You will be directed to a Cisco Meraki Settings page.  In this page, enter/paste your API Key from the Meraki Dashboard.  Also, please ensure the integration is marked as Active.

Note, we provide the option of loading any assets found in Meraki, that are currently not in LCI.   If you want to enable this option, check Import assets from Meraki Dashboard.  When you do that, you will be prompted to specify the Asset Type that will be assigned to the asset when that asset is loaded.  You must assign an asset type.

When you are done, click Save Settings

At this point, you should perform an initial sync so we can pull your Meraki Organization data.   So please click the Sync Now! button.   The initial sync can take up to 10 minutes.   You will know it is complete when you refresh the table below an Mearki Organizations show up.  You can refresh the table by clicking the icon below....

Once you see your organizations... The last and final step is to match the Meraki Organization Name to LCI Company Name.

In the last column, select the LCI Company Name for the Meraki Organization/s you want to sync assets for.  Once you make a selection, the Integration Enabled column will automatically be selected.

Alternatively, you can use the Auto-Mapping feature to match your companies.

To use the auto-mapping feature, click the map companies button.

The system will try to match any exact or near exact matching company names and match those accordingly.

When the auto-mapping is complete the companies that were matched are highlighted as green rows in the table.

The system attempts to find the most exact match for each company.  Some companies with slight name differences may not auto-map.  Please review the mapping to ensure that all desired companies are matched.   A counter of auto-matched companies is provided at the top of the table listing.

Non-exact matches may not map with the auto-mapping feature.  For example if the LCI company is listed as My Company, LLC, but the company is registered in the MS database as My Company may not auto-match.  Review your matches, you can use the drop-down selector to match the companies

Click the Save Automap button at the top of the table to save your selections.

If you would like to remap the companies, click the Refresh Companies button before saving.

This will allow you to remap your companies.

You are now all set.  Syncs will once every 24 hours.  You can also perform an on demand sync by clicking the Sync Now! button on this page.

Turning Off Syncs

You may turn off the Meraki Integration for all of your Meraki organizations by unchecking the Cisco Meraki Integration Active checkbox at the top of the page.

Alternatively, you may turn off the integration for a specific company/organization by unchecking the Integration Enabled? checkbox for in the Company Mapping table.

Questions/Troubleshooting

Question:  I am not seeing any companies to match.  What is going on here?

Companies are not loaded until after the first sync.  The workflow should be set up your key, and then press the Sync Now button.  The sync is performed asynchronously so you can refresh you log to see when it is complete. If it shows as complete and you are still not seeing any companies then there was likely an issue with the API credentials and/or access required.   Ideally, the log will indicate the problem...but if you are stuck please contact us.

Question:  I have some assets in Meraki that are not getting updated/imported.  Why not?

Assets will only get updated when we find a match based on organization and serial number.  If no serial number in Meraki exists, then the asset will not be sync'd to LCI

Question:  Why am I seeing the warranty expiration date from my PSA/IT Glue, and not the subscription end date from Meraki?

The decision to display Warranty expiration date from your PSA/IT Glue vs what we received from Meraki is determined based on you settings in Warranty Lookup settings.

Issue: When I perform a sync, I am getting this error message in the log: 403-Forbidden.  Meraki API services are available for licensed Meraki devices only. Please contact Meraki support.  What do I do?

This is an error returned by the Meraki API and as the error states, you will probably need to contact Meraki support.  One possible cause is that you have an old customer in the Meraki dashboard that is no longer active with their subscription and you need to remove that customer.
